Please call Penny at 590-9800 if you would like to discuss which class is best for you- there's a place for everyone!

We begin to get glimpses of the vast peaceful reality which is always present  behind the constant actions of our minds.

Yoga with Penny

Penny offers flowing classes that range intensity from slow and meditative to vigorous and challenging.  All classes  end with yoga nidra guided relaxation, breathwork (pranayama), and meditation.  These are flowing practices that connect a powerful awareness of breath and inner sensation with movement to cultivate strength, flexibility, and contentment.  Become light!

Ashtanga Flow basic level of fitness needed

This class involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures producing internal heat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved flexibility and circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.  Options are offered for all poses.

Dharma Flow basic level of fitness needed

This class first warms and prepares the body with a dynamic flow that focuses on opening hips, spine and chakras and then progresses into longer held meditative poses and practices.

Mindfulness Flow appropriate for everyone

This class begins with deeply meditative and gentle physical yoga designed to draw our attention inward through exploration of breath, bodily sensation and observing our reactions.  We set a personal intention (sankalpa) for our lives as we go deeper through yoga nidra guided relaxation, breath work (pranayama) and meditation.  Meaningful and appropriate for everyone regardless of previous experience.

Yoga for Beginners appropriate for everyone

Students with no prior background are introduced to the fundamentals of yoga and yoga poses (asana).  You'll leave feeling physically and mentally relaxed.  This class is great for those new to yoga or those seeking guidance on alignment in their poses.

Yoga Nidra Guided Meditation appropriate for everyone

Yoga Nidra is receiving attention from the medical community, therapists, those seeking more peace in their lives, and those seeking a greater connection with their own spirituality.  Lying down covered in warm blankets, listening to the healing vibrations of our live flutes, keyboards, and singing bowls, we will take you on a journey inward as you set a personal intention specific to your life.  This method has proven effective in aiding healing, stress relief, addictions, feelings of loss, and releasing long-standing behavioral patterns.  This guided meditation leads to complete physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.

Pranayama and Meditation appropriate for everyone

In the West, when we hear about a yoga class, we tend to automatically picture the practice of physical poses (asana). Physical poses are, however, just one method available to quiet the mind and turn your attention inward.  Instead of practicing physical yoga poses during this class, you will be seated and learning the techniques of  pranayama (breath work) and meditation.  This class incorporates time for both practice and discussion regarding taking these practices into your daily life.  No yoga experience is necessary- everyone is welcome.

Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga yoga  is a strong flowing practice that connects breath and movement and develops strength, flexibility and endurance.  A set sequence of therapeutic poses is connected together by intentional movements and deep breathing pattern.   This combination of movement (vinyasa), breathing (pranayama), gaze points (drishti), and energetic locks (bandhas) is designed to draw your attention inward and generate an internal heat which detoxifies the body.   This practice purifies and realigns the body, cultivates a feeling of inner peace and is at its essence a meditation in motion.

Dharma Vinyasa Yoga
A mid level of physically intensity, this absorbing moving series was created by Sri Dharma Mittra. It focuses on increasing flexibility in the hips and back and reintegrating the flow of energy (prana) through the spinal column promoting internal harmony so a concentrated state of radiant health is achieved. This class includes flowing poses as well as holding the highest traditional poses.  Each class includes yoga nidra, breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation.

Meditative Yoga
Based on the teachings of Yogi Amrit Desai, this physically gentle class will be half yoga poses and half yoga nidra, pranayama, and meditation.  The deeply meditative physical yoga is characterized by gentle stretching, extension and holding during which bodily sensations are explored.  As we focus on body sensations, the mind becomes absorbed and begins to quiet. We begin to get glimpses of the vast peaceful reality which is always present  behind the constant actions of our minds.  This class is appropriate for beginners, older people, those with injuries, and experienced practitioners desiring a meditative experience.

Yoga Nidra Guided Relaxation
Yoga Nidra is receiving attention from the medical community, therapists, those seeking more peace in their lives, and those seeking a greater connection with their own spirituality.  Lying down, a guided relaxation takes you deep inward through the levels of your being as you set a personal intention specific to your life.  This method has proven effective in aiding healing, stress relief, addictions, feelings of loss, and releasing long-standing behavioral patterns.  This guided meditation leads to complete physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.

Book Club
Each week you'll read a chapter in a spiritual book on your own.  The group will join together once a week to talk informally about the ideas that were presented and how they might be applied in daily life.  Participants are welcome to simply listen or participate as they feel comfortable- no pressure.  You may come every week for each chapter or drop in the weeks you can.  You're always welcome to come for the discussion whether or not you've  completed the readings.
